tips for keeping your family photos feeling natural

Want some tips before your Pembrokeshire beach photoshoot?

Try not to look at the camera too much

Some of the best images come when you are less camera aware, and more engaging with your family. I will ask you to look at me from time to time, but for the moments I'm not, just play and engage. I’ll prompt you to help you with this.

Remember, eye contact is beautiful

Whether it be with your spouse, or your little ones…eye contact is so important to get those well connected images.

Let the kids be kids

Sometimes they NEED to just run about, and that’s ok. I can always get a sense for when they need a run, and it’s great to give them the opportunity. There’s a lot of movement anyway, so sometimes it’s not needed, but if it is, that’s absolutely ok. I don’t expect anyone to sit still for any prolonged amount of time.

Barefoot works best

If we’re shooting in summer, I always suggest bare feet for all. The sand will often fill your shoes anyway. so you’d might as well (don’t forget to trim those toenails).

I’ll be there to notice and capture the little moments.

You know, the one’s that happen in a split second, and are over just as I click. I love noticing little details and moments that are personal to you. The touch of hair, the personalised necklace, if they can be incorporated they will be.

Go with the flow

If you think its all falling to apart, I promise you we are still getting the shots. Keep your own spirits high, because the moment I lose you were done. The kids I can work on.

Movement is beautiful

When were standing still. things can feel a bit awkward and stiff. I’ll be keeping things moving and this also helps you to be less camera aware.
